Probolinggo overview

The unusually named Probolinggo is a city with a range of cultures, religions and ethnic variances found throughout its streets. The harbour area is where most of the action happens, and fishing vessels continuously plough the waters here with brightly coloured boats and flapping-fresh catches. One of Java’s major highways runs close by and there are many interesting Dutch buildings here that date back many years. Mangoes can be enjoyed everywhere here and the city is often called the ‘City of Mangoes’ due to its unusual abundance of the sweet fruit. Locals obviously have a taste for all things sweet as the city is also well known for refining and exporting sugar.
