Pontianak overview

Pontianak Travel Guide
Home of the orang-utan, Borneo island is also home to Pontianak; a primarily industrial city located at the delta of the Kapuas River. It boasts an almost unique location on the equator and around half a million locals reside here. Unfortunately, for the beautiful and gentle orang-utan population, palm oil is produced here in large quantities and is destroying their habitat at a terrifying speed. On a lighter note, gold is also extracted and sold here and the area is known for its trading reputation, mainly along the Kapuas River. The city is densely populated, as much of the country, and the usual clamour of horns and people going about their daily lives can be found in the larger cities and towns.
