Papua overview

The popular tourist hotspot of Papua is the largest province in Indonesia and is located on the western portion of New Guinea. There are numerous towns and cities in Papua, with some boasting stunning coastal locations and others boasting not-so-awe inspiring inland locations. There are various national parks that are home to a number of different bird and animal species, and the local mountain ranges and forests can be fun to explore. Much of the natural landscape here must be explored with a local guide as there are no trails or mapped out hiking paths to ensure your safety in the more rustic areas. A compass and proper footwear is not optional!
