Padang overview

Padang is a large maze of busy streets and noisy traffic but while the city centre remains the epitome of an Indonesian city, its outskirts are pretty and unspoilt. Visitors to Padang will enjoy spending time at Teluk Bayur; the busiest harbour on Sumatra’s west coast. If you think the city is hectic, try a trip to the harbourside! The city is famous for its spicy cuisine and rice accompanies the majority of dishes here. Steer clear of this city if you don’t enjoy spicy food or have a particular fondness for food hygiene as this un-touristy part of Indonesia is well known for its plate-sharing, unhygienic local way of consuming food.
