Manado overview

The mountain-encompassed city of Manado is the capital of North Sulawesi Province and the aptly named Bay of Manado is located at the heart of the city. It attracts tourist like magpie does silver and this is largely due to its shopping malls, abundance of natural attractions and good tourist infrastructure. Bunaken National Park is located here and diving and snorkelling are commonplace as the waters are particularly fertile, despite the locals’ seemingly deep intent to over-fish. There are three volcanoes located close by and all are popular tourist attractions, as are the lakes and temples found in the surrounding countryside and the unusually large malls located in the city centre.
