Malang overview

The city of Malang has a long and interesting history that dates back many years and is now densely populated with people and traffic. Local handicrafts are easy to find and traditional Indonesian dance shows provide endless hours of entertainment for visitors. An unusual statistic that may be of interest to the more adventurous is that there is a high number of transgender people residing here and ‘special’ performances and shows can be seen in certain parts of the city. Just east of the city, Mount Bromo is the city’s biggest tourist draw and the active volcano can be explored, or arguably more sensibly admired from afar.
