Lampung overview

Lampung is also commonly referred to as Southeast Sumatra and is well known for its migrant population who mainly descend from nearby Bali, Java and Madura. Earthquakes are commonplace and the threat of volcanoes is ever-present, making this a thrill-seeker’s paradise. The famous Krakatau volcano exploded here in the 1800s and the province has yet to shake its stigma of being a naturally dangerous place to visit. Ignoring the threat of Mother Nature, Lampung is an interesting place to visit with many locals choosing weaving as their professional and endless textiles and clothing items available at the markets here. Its coastal location is a major appeal to visitors and freshly caught and cooked seafood is some of the best in the country here.
